Plains Grains Inc. Aug. 14 Report: HRW Harvest Wrapping Up In Northwest; Early Yield Reports Impressive

The 2020 hard red winter wheat harvest is wrapping up with Montana and the Pacific Northwest projected to be complete next week, given continued favorable weather, according to the latest Grains Plains Inc. report.

Montana is now 55% complete with harvest, and early reports of the crop have been positive. The 2020 USDA Montana Crop Production report for August indicates the average yield is forecast at 52.0 bu/ac (3.5 t/ha).

Those numbers are up 3.0 bu/ac (0.2 t/ha) from the July 1 forecast and 2.0 bu/ac (0.13 t/ha) above last year’s final yield. Producers are reporting yields ranging from 30-65 bu/ac (2.02 – 4.37 t/ha).

Idaho is 46% complete with harvest, and northern Idaho is seeing near record yields. The other two states still harvesting are Oregon (79%) and Washington (61%).
