Plains Grains Inc. Sept. 4 Report: Test Weight Up Slightly as Hard Red Winter Wheat Harvest Finishes

The nation's hard red winter wheat harvest has come to an end with the 11 states in the Plains Grains Inc. weekly Harvest Summary reporting 100% complete.

Attention in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Wyoming now turns to preparations for planting the 2021 crop.

There are now 406 samples in various stages of testing, and overall test weight reached 61.7 lb/bu, which is slightly better than last year.

TKW average is 31.3 grams; 2.60 mm kernel diameter, matching the Wheat Quality Council target.

Preliminary bake data from Texas through South Dakota now indicates an average loaf volume across all composites of 867 cc; the council's target is >850 cc.
