Global Harvest Update: Here's What U.S. Wheat Associates Survey Found

As the 2020 wheat harvest nears its end in the Northern Hemisphere, U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) surveyed industry sources to assess the global harvest situation for this report.

The 2020 U.S. hard red winter (HRW) and soft red winter (SRW) harvests are officially complete and preparations for the 2021 crop are now underway.

The U.S. crop is forecast down 5% on reduced planted area and lower yields, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Canada is expected to reach its second-highest level of wheat production in over 100 years, 16% higher than the five-year average. Russia is reporting a 24% increase in its wheat harvest compared to a year ago.

Ukraine has suffered through dry conditions, and its wheat crop is down about 7% from a year ago. Europe is also reporting poor results with its harvest compared to 2019.
