USDA Grain Transportation Report (6/2): Panama Canal Tentatively Schedules Locks Maintenance on June 8

Tentatively scheduled outages may affect Panama Canal traffic on Wednesday (June 8).

That day, the east lane of the Panama Canal’s Miraflores Panamax Locks may be out of service for 10 hours for maintenance work.

During these outages, the locks’ daily transit capacity is estimated at 25-27 vessels — down from the normal capacity of 34-36 vessels.

No major delays are anticipated.

The locks’ exact transit capacity depends on vessel mix, transit restrictions, and other factors.

A majority of U.S. grain destined to Asia transits the canal.
