USDA Grain Transportation Report (1/05): Iowa Extends Weight Limits For Grain Transportation

According to today's USDA Grain Transportation Report, effective until January 20, the Iowa Governor has extended an exemption from weight limits for vehicles transporting corn, soybeans, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer (dry, liquid, and gas), and manure (dry and liquid).

During the exemption period, weight limits and permits are waived for vehicles up to 90,000 pounds gross weight.

Besides expanding the gross weight limit, the waiver also covers vehicles that do not exceed the maximum axle weight limit (of 20,000 pounds) by more than 12.5 percent—as long as they comply with posted limits on roads and bridges. The waiver applies to loads transported on all highways within Iowa (except the interstate highway system).
