Why Would Pipeline Damage Threaten Black Sea Grain Deal?

According to a Reuters report:

  • Russia's Defence Ministry claims that "Ukrainian saboteurs" on Monday, June 5, had blown up a section of the Togliatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline that carries fertilizer from Russia to Ukraine.
  • Russia uses the pipeline to pump up to 2.5 million tons of ammonia each year for global export.
  • It will take up to three months to repair the pipeline, according to the ministry.
  • Moscow says it will limit the number of vessels allowed to travel to Pivdennyi port under the Black Sea deal until the ammonia pipeline can be restarted.
