The House unanimously passed H.R. 1418, the Animal Drug and Animal Generic Drug User Fee Amendments of 2023 (ADUFA), on July 17. This bill does not include a provision in the Senate version of ADUFA that exempts animal feed additives from review as drugs.
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions advanced its reauthorization of ADUFA on June 15, including the NGFA-endorsed Innovative Feed Enhancement and Economic Development (FEED) Act of 2023 (S.1842) sponsored by Sens. Roger Marshall, R-KS; Tammy Baldwin, D-WI; Jerry Moran, R-KS; and Michael Bennet, D-CO.
The Innovative FEED Act would modernize the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to enable innovative products to reach the market and advance improvements in food safety.
The bill would promote the availability of animal food products with novel benefits, such as improving the environment and reducing human foodborne illness.
NGFA and partner organizations are working with senators to pass a bill that includes the feed additive language so it can be incorporated into a final bill.
