Protecting your people and your products since 2011

History

Throughout the nation, grain handlers from country elevators to large terminals strive to maintain the quality of their customers’ products. The safety of those elevator employees also is essential.

Since 2011, M&M Specialty Services has been providing products and services to facilitate those needs.

Headquartered in Leavenworth, KS, M&M provides equipment and training to protect grain elevator workforces and their stored commodities with fumigants, insecticides, monitoring equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

The company was founded in 2011 in response to an increase in domestic and foreign regulatory guidelines for employee safety, food safety, and grain storage and processing. Individuals and companies were familiar with President Mark McQuillan’s expertise from two decades of experience in grain elevator safety and grain quality protection. They encouraged McQuillan and his wife, Michelle, to start the company.

“We started the company as a one-man operation, with strong input from Michelle and a few part-time employees,” McQuillan says. “We now have eight full-time employees and several part-time and seasonal employees. With supervision from our full-time staff, all employees are cross-trained in all aspects of the company.”

M&M’s growth has been continuous, says McQuillan, who credits a strong employee work ethic and integrity as the main reasons behind the company’s accomplishments. “They have taken care of our customers. They have taken pride and personal ownership in the products and services we provide.”

Philosophy

“We put people first,” says McQuillan.

“We strive to protect our customers and their employees, as well as our customers’ facilities and products through the best commercially tested products and services we can offer,” he says. “Trust from our customers allows us to make recommendations for the safety of their employees and for the safety of the commodity they store.”

M&M constantly reinvests in its employees and company. “We invest in training and better equipment, which helps our employees do their job to the best of their abilities,” he adds.

“This keeps us at the forefront of the industry, so we can offer our customers the best equipment and services to save them money, maintain their facilities, protect their stored commodities, and keep their employees and their work environment safe.”

The company is an active member of the grain industry. Since 2012, it has been a member of the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS), Kansas Grain and Feed Association, and Oklahoma Grain and Feed Association, as well as the Texas Grain and Feed Association since 2016.

Honesty, integrity, hard work and the ability to work as a team illustrate M&M’s core values. “We’ve been built on the most basic of principles,” says McQuillan. “Treat others as you would want to be treated. Fulfill the needs of the customer, and you will find gratification and satisfaction in a job well done.”

Products

M&M Specialty Services custom manufactures many products in its own facilities in Leavenworth. “We design and build spray application equipment, fumigation systems and other products,” says McQuillan. “With our experienced employees, we can ensure quality, maintain oversight, and control production to meet the specifications needed by our customers.

“Additionally,” he says, “we provide products from distributors domestically and internationally. Companies with new products or ideas come to us because they know we do a good job of representing products and take the lead in marketing them.”

M&M provides hearing protection, head protection, eyewear, hand cleaners, protective gloves, fall protection equipment, and accessories. It also offers equipment sales, rentals, repairs, and training to meet numerous monitoring requirements for work place safety. A variety of product and service catalogs are available to match products with customer needs.

Stored grain products. In addition, product protection equipment and services are available to protect stored grain. These include insecticides to control all types of insects, special insecticide combinations, insect growth regulators, and synergists.

Grain protection is facilitated through custom spray systems, grain protectants and IGRs, bin and elevator spray-down treatments, fogging, pest control programs, fumigation equipment, fumigation services, fumigants, and safety training.
