System separates hot, dry air, returns it to the drying process, simultaneously removes cold, wet air and debris

GSI (Grain Systems Inc.) has introduced an energy-efficient Tower Dryer Heat Reclaim System.

The patent-pending system separates hot, dry air and returns it to the drying process, while simultaneously removing cold, wet air and debris and discarding it through the dryer’s open bottom.

“In two years of extensive testing at three sites, the Tower Dryer Heat Reclaim System was proven to reduce energy costs by 9 to 30%,” says Jarod Wendt, engineering manager, grain conditioning.

“After the LP gas shortage a couple of years ago, we wanted to help farmers and grain elevators reduce their energy costs to dry grain,” he says.

The testing process, says Wendt, used identical side-by-side GSI tower dryers at two large farms in Kentucky and Illinois and an ag cooperative in Wisconsin.

Debris Buildup Minimized

“The new system controls and minimizes debris buildup in the dryer and heat reclaim shroud experienced with previous heat reclaiming systems,” adds Wendt. “This not only improves drying efficiency but also results in minimal cleaning required under the reclaim area.”
