Last week, the Mississippi River Commission (MRC) announced its schedule of public meetings.

Congress charged the MRC with the mission to develop plans to improve the condition of the Mississippi River, foster navigation, promote commerce, and prevent destructive floods.

There will be a total of six public meetings: the first was August 15 in Burlington, IA, and the last will be August 25 in Morgan City, LA.

Open to the public, the meetings will include:

(1) a summary report on national and regional issues affecting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects on the Mississippi River System.

(2) an overview of current projects in each respective area.

(3) presentations from local organizations and members of the public.
