This monthly release is part of the Current Agricultural Industrial Report (CAIR) program, and covers the crush of oilseeds and production of crude oil for selected states and the U.S. as well as U.S. production and consumption of selected fats and oils for edible and inedible uses. The end-of-month stock values by oilseed are also published.
The report is compiled from data from facilities regarding oilseed crushing, crude oil production, once refined oil production, rendering production, and end of month stocks for the previous calendar month.

Soybeans crushed for crude oil was 5.82 million tons (194 million bushels) in February 2024, compared with 5.84 million tons (195 million bushels) in January 2024 and 5.31 million tons (177 million bushels) in February 2023. Crude oil produced was 2.29 billion pounds, up less than 1 percent from January 2024 and up 10 percent from February 2023. Soybean once refined oil production at 1.63 billion pounds during February 2024 increased 2 percent from January 2024 but decreased 2 percent from February 2023.
Canola seeds crushed for crude oil was 205,713 tons in February 2024, compared with 203,989 tons in January 2024 and 177,907 tons in February 2023. Canola crude oil produced was 167 million pounds, up 1 percent from January 2024 and up 17 percent from February 2023. Canola once refined oil production, at 149 million pounds during February 2024, was down 4 percent from January 2024 but up 2 percent from February 2023. Cottonseed once refined oil production, at 42.1 million pounds during February 2024, was up 67 percent from January 2024 and up 21 percent from February 2023.
Edible tallow production was 97.4 million pounds during February 2024, up 34 percent from January 2024 but down 7 percent from February 2023. Inedible tallow production was 353 million pounds during February 2024, up 18 percent from January 2024 and up 3 percent from February 2023. Technical tallow production was 128 million pounds during February 2024, up 18 percent from January 2024 and up 12 percent from February 2023. Choice white grease production, at 114 million pounds during February 2024, decreased 3 percent from January 2024 and decreased 5 percent from February 2023.
