Manhattan, KS – The standards for quality feed for livestock and companion animals continue to rise. In an effort to enhance the education of all production and management personnel who manufacture feed, Kansas State University’s IGP Institute hosted the IGP-KSU Feed Manufacturing course June 18-21, 2019 for 36 attendees.
“This course had a diverse group with participants from 7 different countries,” says Carlos Campabadal, feed manufacturing and grain quality management outreach specialist.
“Those who came included animal nutritionists, veterinarians and feed mill operators.” Campabadal adds, “Participants had the opportunity to experience a tour in the O.H. Kruse Feed Technology Center, join a pellet quality control workshop and see an extrusion demo in our pilot scale facilities.”
Course participant, Adam Wrigley, Gold Star Feed & Grain plant manager, discusses his experiences and what he gained while attending this course.
“I don’t have a strong agricultural background, but I’m leaving the course with a better understanding of how to maintain and test pellet quality,” Wrigley says.
He adds, “The instructors were knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material, and they made learning easy and fun for me.”
In addition to feed manufacturing and grain quality management, the IGP Institute offers courses in the areas of flour milling and grain processing, and grain marketing and risk management.
