Urethane chock molds itself to wheel and rail for maximum holding

For more than 110 years, Aldon Company has manufactured railroad safety and track maintenance products for rail-using industrial firms.

In February, the company introduced its spark-proof urethane double wheel chock specially designed for powered railcar movers.

“If locomotives and freight cars need wheel chocks, why not hi-rail car movers that do so much of industrial railroad switching?” says Aldon President Joe Ornig.

“You can’t depend on brakes alone to keep an idling railcar mover in place,” cautions Ornig. “Our new urethane chock molds itself to the wheel and the rail to provide exceptional holding power.”

The spark-proof wheel chock fits car mover wheels from 12 to 24 inches in diameter.

According to Ornig, the holding power of the chock is enhanced by a tension cord that draws the two urethane halves tight against both sides of the wheel.

Urethane Strength

“Urethane is ideal for wheel chocks,” says Ornig. “Under load, the chock can compress to half its thickness and then spring back to its full form.”

“And no wheel chock is more convenient,” he adds. “When it’s time to move one, you just roll over the chock under power without risk of derailment.”
