Product Review - Gas Bag Fumigant - UPL

Founded in Mumbai, India in 1969, UPL entered the export market in 1975 and expanded to the United States in 2004.

According to Key Account Manager Todd Wilhelm, the company’s vision is to be an icon for growth, technology, and innovation, making every single food product more sustainable.

UPL introduced its Weevil-Cide bag fumigant in 1992, which Wilhelm says was reformulated and received registration in the United States in late 2022.

“Weevil-Cide is great for finished products, such as flour or rice,” he says, “and provides a way to contain dust residue contact with the food itself. If phosphine dust comes into contact with a finished processed commodity, the commodity will be deemed adulterated.”

Smaller Pack Sizes

“Weevil-Cide is available in smaller pack sizes than competitive products,” he adds, “and is easier to apply without dust residue in rail cars, mills, and popcorn bins. This product is available in 11-gram bags compared to 33-gram bags.”
