Liner provides low resistance in conveying systems

This article is taken from the July/August 2020 GRAIN JOURNAL

For more than 40 years, Maljohn has specialized in manufacturing ultra-high-molecular-weight (UHMW) plastics for industrial applications. In 2018, the company introduced color-coded U-trough liners made of highly abrasion-resistant and food-grade UHMW in a variety of thicknesses.

According to Mal Johnson, owner and chief executive officer, “Our standard pre-formed U-trough liners are made of UHMW, an excellent abrasion-resistant, U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved material that is 1/3 the weight of steel. With a low coefficient of friction, these liners help prevent conveyed materials from getting hung up.”

Color Coded Wear Indicator

“Liners also can be made to order with two colors,” says Johnson. “The top layer is UHMW natural, and the bottom layer in yellow UHMW acts as a wear indicator to show when the liner is worn out and needs to be replaced, reducing unplanned shutdowns.”
