Product Review ... Fumigation System

In the early 2000s, the company introduced the Horn Diluphos System (HDS). This fumigation technology is designed to allow pure phosphine to be diluted and discharged to safely and effectively fumigate grain and other products.

According to General Manager Leonel Jimenez, “The HDS uses pure cylinderized phosphine diluted below the flammability limit, and it is dispensed from outside the fumigation structure, reducing worker exposure. Competitive products use chemical-driven products that carry fire risk, and there are no residues with the HDS, just phosphine gas that dissipates quickly after aeration.”

Easy Monitoring and Adjustment

“The treatment can be easily monitored and adjusted,” explains Jimenez, “if the concentration level falls below the lower limit of the pest at any point, for example, 300 parts per million (ppm) within 72 hours of exposure, the structure can be re-injected or topped off so there’s no delay in achieving an effective kill. The treatment also can be stopped whenever it’s desired, since you don’t have to wait until the reaction is finished.”
